Alexander Krassyuk, promoter for IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, says there are three locations under consideration for the rematch with Anthony Joshua.
Back in September, Uysk outboxed Joshua over twelve rounds to capture the unified crown at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Joshua has already exercised his contractual right to an immediate rematch.
Krassyuk will soon be meeting with Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom, to discuss the location details. The second fight is being positioned for the first quarter of 2022.
“We plan to meet with Eddie Hearn within the next couple of weeks to initiate the rematch activities,” Krassyuk told Sky Sports.
“We have three options under consideration: the UK, Ukraine and the Middle East. Hopefully by the end of 2021, we will be in the position to take the final decision.”
One man who would love to face Usyk is WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
The World Boxing Council gave Fury a 30-day deadline to get a deal done with Usyk – which was virtually impossible since Joshua was holding a contractual rematch clause.
That deadline has now passed and Usyk has no problem with facing Joshua for a second time.
“Not at all. We were 100 percent aware of the rematch clause, we gave our word and signed it on paper. There is no space for frustration, as things are going the way we planned them to go,” Krassyuk said.
“Tyson has to prove his championship position by going through the mandatory. But this is up to him and his team. On our side, we keep focus on the rematch as the No 1 option.”
Fury is also being positioned to return in the first quarter of the coming year, with mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte as the frontrunner opponent.
