Women’s boxing pound-for-pound rankings: Amanda Serrano makes a big move after impressive win

Boxing

Katie Taylor, Claressa Shields and Amanda Serrano continue to lead the way in the ESPN women’s pound-for-pound rankings. But now we have a new order.

Serrano (42-1-1, 30 KOs), dominated a game Miriam Gutierrez on Dec. 18 to set up a potential megafight against undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor next year, in what could be the biggest women’s boxing match of all time. The victory also earned her the No. 2 spot over Shields.

ESPN writer Michael Rothstein has Serrano ranked at No. 3 on his list, but admits any of the top three could be on the top spot on any given day.

“The top three in the pound-for-pound are getting tougher and tougher to judge,” Rothstein said. “At this point you could make a credible case for any of Katie Taylor, Claressa Shields or Amanda Serrano to be the best in the world — and a year from now this entire list could be shaken up. That’s the potential of depth women’s boxing is finally starting to show.”

Another fighter making a move is Seniesa Estrada, who defended her WBA strawweight title with an impressive fourth-round KO over Maria Santizo on Dec. 18.
