Former three division champion Vasiliy Lomachenko is very focused on completing his mission of regaining the world titles that he lost in 2020, according to Top Rank president Todd DuBoef.
Last year, Lomachenko lost his WBO, WBC Franchise, IBF, WBA titles to Teofimo Lopez.
Back in November, Lopez lost those titles to George Kambosos in a major upset which created shockwaves in the lightweight division.
With Lopez moving up to 140-pounds, Lomachenko is placing his focus on securing a world title fight against Kambosos.
The two-time Olympic gold medal winner returned to the ring earlier this month with a dominating twelve round decision win over former IBF champion Richard Commey at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Kambosos is open to the possibility of fighting Lomachenko – but the talented Australian boxer has several possibilities on the table.
However, at the moment Lomachenko is the only high-profile fighter willing to travel overseas to face Kambosos in Australia.
Lomachenko has advised Top Rank to secure the fight with Kambosos – which the Las Vegas-based promoter is attempting to get done for 2022.
“Lomachenko has made it very evident to us, and to his team, that [Kambosos is] the fight he would like. We are amicably trying to have discussions with them for a fight in the first half of next year,” DuBoef told Sky Sports.
“Lomachenko is a poster boy for many things in the sport. He was aggressively matched – he came right out of the amateurs and fought for a world title [in his second fight]. He doesn’t look at a setback as his value going down. He looks at it like a re-set to go forwards.
“He has come back with two brilliant wins and he never says no to any opponents. He wants his titles back.”
