Bomac Excited About Crawford-Canelo Possibility: “I Wanna Try To Outthink Eddy Reynoso”

Boxing Scene

It came across as a bit facetious at first. Canelo Alvarez? Terence Crawford? Both in the ring at the same time swapping fists? It simply didn’t seem plausible. Yet, after Crawford admitted that he would be willing to move up three weight classes to face the Mexican star, their mouthwatering matchup has garnered a ton of attention.

Although Alvarez appeared reluctant at first, he recently stated that if Crawford truly wants it, he would be more than willing to give him what he’s asking for.

For the 35-year-old, facing Alvarez comes with a bevy of issues. Of course, Alvarez’s overall skill set speaks for itself but outside of that, the sheer weight and size of the pound-for-pound star figures to be a handful.

Having competed as low as 135 pounds, Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) would be asked to put on 21 pounds and compete in a weight division that would seem to put him at a massive disadvantage.

Nevertheless, Crawford isn’t the only one who feels confident in his abilities to get the job done. When recently asked, Brian “Bomac” McIntyre, Crawford’s longtime trainer, didn’t seem worried in the slightest. From his point of view, all that needs to be done is a bit of studying.

“Mentally we’re ready,” said Bomac during an interview with Fight Hub TV. “All we gotta do is our homework.”

Come September 30th, Bomac will pull out his pen and pad and jot down notes. On the night, Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) will officially lace up his gloves and take on Jermell Charlo in an undisputed vs. undisputed showdown.

Like every opponent Alvarez has ever faced, Eddy Reynoso has thrown on his glasses and entered the film room. The former trainer of the year has successfully guided the Mexican star to world titles in four separate weight classes and a likely Hall of Fame induction when it’s all said and done.

For Bomac, he’s been around the sport of boxing for decades. However, he’s never gotten the chance to face a fighter with Reynoso standing in their corner. The thought of doing that, ultimately excites him.

“Let’s go! That’s a challenge to me too as a trainer. I want to try and outthink Eddy Reynoso over there. I never faced him.”

Back in July, Crawford became the undisputed welterweight champion when he stopped longtime rival Errol Spence. Last week, Spence officially exercised the immediate rematch clause. A date for the rematch has yet to be revealed.
