Regis Prograis Believes He Can Be The Face of Boxing

Boxing Scene

Being a superstar isn’t something that Regis Prograis dreams of. Not normally. The 34-year-old has other thoughts running through his mind, like decapitating his opponents and wrapping his waist with championship gold.

Fortune and fame don’t go hand in hand. For Prograis, winning fights, taking home sizable paychecks, grabbing titles, and being respected by his peers are at the top of his to-do list. Always has been.

Still, while he doesn’t seek the spotlight, he isn’t opposed to it.

There’s a mythical title in the sport of boxing, one that comes without annoying sanctioning fees. Becoming the face of boxing is reserved for those who are wildly popular. Being a great fighter is also a component but simply put, it isn’t as important as being supremely admired.

Currently, Canelo Alvarez and Gervonta Davis are head and shoulders above everyone in that department. Prograis, however, is looking to crash that exclusive party.

“I really feel like I can be the face of boxing,” Prograis told Fight Hub TV. “Or close to it in two fights.”

The second fight Prograis is referring to is an open-ended question but he firmly believes that on December 9th, a star will be born.

On the night, the WBC super lightweight belt holder will take on Devin Haney. Facing the 24-year-old won’t add another belt to Prograis’ collection but it’ll place plenty of eyeballs on him.

Haney’s name, of course, has been buzzing. He recently took out Vasiliy Lomachenko after making two trips to Australia to dethrone George Kambosos Jr. to become an undisputed champion.

Being a megastar hasn’t always been on the mind of Prograis. But, he notices the opportunity that’s standing before him. If he can simply hand Haney the first loss of his career and parlay that victory with another big-time win, he believes he’ll be right up there with Alvarez and Davis.

“It’s right there for me to grab. I just have to put in the work. It’s there for the taking.”
