Women’s boxing could join the Saudi revolution via Skye Nicolson-Raven Chapman

Queensberry may have taken bragging rights by sweeping Matchroom in the recent ‘5 Vs. 5’ showdown between the two promotional giants but the rivalry shows no signs of slowing down.

Rumors abound that Matchroom’s WBC featherweight champion, Skye Nicolson, 10-0 (1 KO), is being lined up to defend her title against Queensberry’s Raven Chapman, 8-0 (2 KOs).

The fight could potentially land on the undercard of the eagerly anticipated undisputed light heavyweight title fight between WBC/IBF and WBO champion, Artur Beterbiev and WBA title holder, Dmitry Bivol, which takes place in Saudi Arabia on October 12.

Saudi Arabia’s entrance into boxing has kicked down the barriers which prevented some of the sport’s biggest names from working together for so long but, so far, there has been an absence of women’s fights from the super cards. That would all change if Nicolson and Chapman collide.

Nicolson won the title by outpointing Denmark’s Sarah Mahfoud in April and the Australian makes the first defense of her title against the Dominican Republic’s Dyana Vargas, 19-1 (12 KOs), on the undercard of the IBF welterweight title fight between Jaron Ennis and David Avanesyan in Philadelphia next Saturday.

On July 27th, Chapman returns to action on the Joe Joyce v Derek Chisora show in London.  She takes on the unbeaten Colombian, Yohana Sarabia, 10-0 (6 KOs).
