Garcia expelled by WBC after racist rantings

Fighting

Ryan Garcia has formally been expelled from the WBC, meaning he’ll no longer be able to participate in any of the body’s sanctioned events after he took to social media yesterday to unload a series of comments and since-deleted tweets disparaging Blacks and Muslims.

That prompted WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman to take immediate action, saying he would exercise his power to ban Garcia.

“Exercising my authority as president of the WBC , I am hereby expelling Ryan Garcia from any activity with our organization. We reject any form of discrimination. I fear for Ryan well being as he has declined multiple attempts for our help with mental health and substance abuse,” Sulaiman would post on X.

Garcia has already been suspended for one year following positive drug tests for ostarine leading into his bout against Devin Haney, so wouldn’t be in a position to participate with the WBC anyway, and realistically there’s still plenty of time between now and then for Garcia and Sulaiman to reconcile and bring him back into the fold at a later time.
