Jesse Rodriguez is lord of the Boxing News super flies

Latest

JESSE ‘Bam’ Rodriguez is the big mover across the lower weights as he flies into the super-flyweight number one spot in the Boxing News rankings. Used to flitting between the weights, Bam was the flyweight king who stopped Sunny Edwards before moving up to dethrone Juan Francisco Estrada in dramatic fashion. Stopping the Mexican with a body shot in round seven, Rodriguez quickened the pace of his pound-for-pound march.

That defeat saw Estrada drop to number three in the 115-pound top 10 list, because Fernando Daniel Martinez of Argentina defeated our now number four Kazuto Ioka by a competitive but wide 12-round decision.

This month, there was double Japanese disappointment as Kosei Tanaka’s proposed titled defence against Jonathan Rodriguez was called off when the Mexican weighed in well over the eight stone three-pound limit. Tanaka stays rooted at number five.

Carlos Cuadras falls to number seven due to inactivity even though he holds a win over number six, Pedro Guevara, who took his place to defeat Australia’s Andrew Moloney on the Lomachenko-Kambosos undercard.

David Jimenez is at position #8. The Costa Rican pulled off a great win over John ‘Scrappy’ Ramirez in April to win the WBA Interim bauble.

Srisaket Sor Rungvisai is still clinging on to ninth spot despite fighting in nondescript six and eight-rounders in Thailand. Srisaket’s weight is also contentious as he has not officially made 115 since losing to number one Rodriguez in 2022. Ricardo Malajika, a relatively unknown South African, slid in at 10th position. Malajika holds the IBO title and was last seen defeating Marcel Braithwaite.
