ESPN+, 9:00 pm ET, Angel Ayala vs Dave Apolinario. The vacant IBF flyweight title is up for grabs between Mexico’s Ayala and the Philippines’ Apolinario in Mexico City. It’s a good matchup, two contenders at 112

Saturday, Aug. 10

DAZN, 2:30 pm ET, X Series 016: FaZe Temper vs Josh Brueckner. Another Misfits Boxing show. This one does not have KSI so it does not have our cheap, trashy attention.

ESPN+, 6:40 pm ET, Luis Alberto Lopez vs Angelo Leo. This is an ESPN+ exclusive. Lopez is defending his IBF featherweight title in Albuquerque, where Leo is from. Going on the road? As the CHAMPION? My God, next you’ll tell me that the Champion does not actually get to automatically win any round that’s even kinda close because the other person didn’t “really take it from them.” If we aren’t applying hokum to everyone who attains one of boxing’s 278 “world titles,” then what are we doing here? We all know that this coming Premier League season, teams will be forced to beat Man City by at least two goals to actually achieve a win. It just makes good sense. Because of limited availability and these ESPN+ exclusive cards being annoying time-wise, we won’t have live updates, but this is not a bad fight. Leo can box and Lopez is on a terrific run.

DAZN, 8:00 pm ET, Serhii Bohachuk vs Vergil Ortiz Jr. Bohachuk’s interim WBC belt at 154 is at stake here, and more importantly a prime spot in the division to challenge for a full world title, or get elevated to that status in time. (Sebastian Fundora holds the full belt at the moment.) This main event has obvious great fight potential, both guys like to bang and Bohachuk is not exactly Mr. Defense. Ortiz has stopped everyone he’s faced to date but Bohachuk is also the most dangerous opponent he’ll have had, and Ortiz’s first legitimate test at 154 lbs. Also the first time Ortiz will actually have to make 154 instead of being given two lbs of wiggle room. Undercard features Gabriela Fundora defending her IBF flyweight title, plus a Cecilia Braekhus vs Maricela Cornejo fight, Charles Conwell, and more. BLH will have live updates.
