Dubois trainer Don Charles addresses exit rumours

IT wouldn’t be boxing fight week without a hefty dose of drama to keep the audience interested until the card starts. The absence of Daniel Dubois’ head trainer, Don Charles, from the grand arrivals, open workouts, and media events has led to speculation over where the veteran trainer has disappeared to at such a critical stage of his fighter’s preparations.

As with any of these situations, whispers abound, and various speculative theories are presented and passed around, including that Charles had been sacked from his duties. Derek Chisora’s former head trainer was said to have suffered an illness, and it is still up in the air as to whether he will be in the corner.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Charles stated: “It’s a head cold, but a very bad head cold and I’ve been in bed literally trying to shake it off.”

Staying away from the main protagonist is key for Charles, who would be responsible for an almighty cancellation if he passed any viruses around. Don also addressed talk that a falling out with Dubois’ father had caused a ruckus.

“There’s a few individuals, for whatever reason, they went around spreading bad, vicious rumours that there’s been a fall out,” roared Don.

“No, there has not been any fall out. I hate to disappoint them. We’re very, together [as a] team. The family and the training staff were very, very tight. So this fall out stuff, it’s all ludicrous. It’s a vicious lie.”

The big question as fight night approaches is how this entire scenario will impact Daniel’s performance or the outcome of the fight. The truth will be revealed in Wembley Stadium on September 21.
