Chris Eubank Jr says he’s looking to take on all the biggest fights possible during this next stretch of his career, and he could be in line for the biggest one possible in a prospective fight against Mexican star Canelo Alvarez.
Eubank tells Sky Sports that a fight against Canelo could be one to happen within the next year, and that he knows he’s an attractive option when looking at what’s left for Canelo outside of a David Benavidez fight, which Canelo hasn’t been particularly keen on.
Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom, who represents Eubank, says it’s clear to him that the two biggest options on the table for his fighter are against either Conor Benn or Canelo, the latter of which has talks already underway.
“For me the two fights for me are Canelo and Conor Benn. We’ve already started small conversations around the Canelo fight,” Shalom told Sky Sports. “I think Canelo needs dance partners but he also needs stars. I don’t think his last couple of opponents have been the biggest stars and Chris Eubank Jr’s certainly a big star. If he’s ever going to fight in the UK, that’s the fight and that would sell out Wembley Stadium. That’s No 1 on the list for me.”
If Eubank were able to secure a fight against Canelo, it would be far and away the biggest opportunity and stage he’s ever been presented with, along with a chance to quiet his naysayers.
