Mikaela Lauren claims she can make history at the age of 48

Michaela Kotaskova will defend her WBF welterweight gong against ex-champ Mikaela Lauren in Vienna, Austria, on November 30.

Lauren, who will turn 49 in January, claims that victory will make her the oldest champion in female boxing history. The current record holder is Alicia Ashley, who was 48 when she beat Christina McMahon in 2015 and won the WBC junior featherweight title. It’s likely that historians will favor Ashley’s claim over Lauren’s, however, given the questionable validity of the WBF strap.

Lauren, 33-7-1 (14 KOs), has previously held a number of titles but retired in 2019 only to come back earlier this year and is 1-1-1 during her comeback.

Kotaskova, a comparatively sprightly 33, is 8-0-2 (4 KOs).

The show is promoted by Bounce and is billed as “For Daniel” referring to its founder and President Daniel Nader, who passed away recently. Bounce is now run by Nader’s younger brother Marcos.
