PBC schedule updates: Benavidez vs Morrell planned for Feb. 1, Tank vs Roach for Mar. 1

Fighting

PBC’s upcoming schedule has received two noteworthy adjustments.

First, Lance Pugmire reports that David Benavidez’s (29-0, 24 KO) planned light heavyweight showdown with David Morrell (11-0, 9 KO) has been pushed back from January 25th to the following Saturday, February 1st. Per Pugmire, this is to allow Benavidez Sr to corner Diego Pacheco on the original date, potentially against Trevor McCumby.

It’s a short, understandable delay, easy to swallow by virtue of it being among the best matchups the sport has to offer. Less forgivable is Keith Idec’s report that Gervonta Davis’ (30-0, 28 KO) clash with Lamont Roach Jr (25-1-1, 10 KO) has been pushed back from December 14th to March 1st.

If that holds true, “Tank” will have gone a span of 23 months with only a single fight to his name. No wonder his penthouse is being foreclosed on.

The delay also makes Roach’s super featherweight reign even more pathetic. He’s had no less than three mandatory challengers primed over the last year, with Albert Batyrgaziev ultimately emerging on top, but will end 2024 having only faced the hapless Feargal McCrory
