Sunny Edwards vs. Galal Yafai – Boxing Betting Prediction

THE tension has been steadily rising all week as Sunny Edwards and Galal Yafai renew their old amateur rivalry in Birmingham tomorrow evening. The all-British clash sees former flyweight world champion Edwards (8/11) face a man who achieved the top prize in the amateurs. Yafai (11/10) claimed gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The WBC Interim flyweight crown is on the line, which offers a final step to world class. Domestic bragging rights between two feuding families is also a talking point. While Yafai achieved big in the amateur code, Sunny has ticked all of the boxes as a pro. Wins over the likes of Mthalane (his title-winning effort), Alvarado and Waseem sit pretty on the record.

Edwards’ sole loss came to one of the best in the business: Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez. No shame there, as Rodriguez has ascended even higher on the pound-for-pound lists. For all of his amateur exploits, Yafai has yet to contest a 12-rounder. Edwards does the distance for breakfast. Make no mistake, this is a step up for Galal.

A previous amateur bout, plus their many sparring rounds, means they know each other well. The competitive spars will be transplanted into a raucous Birmingham ring for everyone to witness. Early on, Yafai should fancy his chances and fancy that his power shines through.

As the rounds wear on, Sunny will likely take over. Even down the stretch, pride and passion will keep both men in it, with Edwards’ experience as much as his quality enabling him to claim a clear, if never comfortable, points win.
