‘I just want to right that wrong’: Whittaker looks for rematch with Cameron

Fighting

Ben Whittaker didn’t get the result he was looking for when he fought Liam Cameron this past October, in a bout that ended in a technical draw after both fighters took a tumble over the top rope resulting in an injury to Whittaker’s ankle.

Whittaker believes he was unfairly criticized for the result of that fight and says he wants to quiet the doubters by immediately rematching Cameron in order to put on a performance more in line with his true ability.

That said, he believes Cameron has had his profile raised by the result even without scoring a win and says he wants the fight again despite being uncertain if Cameron and his team feel the same way.

“You never know what he’s going to do, with his promotional deal now he might have a different route [in mind], might think: ‘I don’t need that now.’

“But after the back of that, the way people have been talking, it’s only right. I just want to right that wrong, show how good I am and move on to the next.”

Whittaker is known for his showboating style in the ring and while he’s been able to get away with that against lesser opposition thus far, he’ll have increasingly less opportunity to play around in the ring as the competition rises. If he in fact gets the chance to rematch Cameron, he says his class will show.
