‘It’s a no-brainer to me’: Benn turns attention to WBC title fight with Barrios

Fighting

Conor Benn says he’s getting tired of wasting time trying to negotiate a fight against Chris Eubank Jr, and is now focusing on taking on Mario Barrios for his WBC welterweight title. Benn says there’s already been a couple of offers made to Barrios and he thinks that’ll be his path forward.

Benn on what fight he’s working on making at the moment

“For me, I’ve instructed the team to solely focus on making the Barrios fight. We’re wasting our time, we’re wasting our time with the offer (to Eubank). It was 50/50 or it was nothing. I can’t be bothered wasting no more time.

“I just want to fight and Feb. 15 is the date that’s available for the WBC world title at the O2 Arena, so it’s a no-brainer to me. We just need to get that fight done and signed. Barrios’ team are ready, I know two offers have been sent in to Barrios and I think the offers are good offers.”

On his interest in a fight with Gervonta Davis

“It’s just rubbish. I ain’t got the energy for rubbish. Twitter, when it’s pipe up on Twitter he goes ‘yeah, no problem, we’ll get the fight done, get your guy to contact me.’ Cool, got a $15M offer sent over and didn’t want to negotiate, so instead he’s fighting Lamont Roach. Just don’t at me. Haney, don’t at me. Garcia, don’t at me. Where are you lot now that I’m a free man?

“Haney is the wettest, mingiest, boxer I’ve ever come across, genuinely. How are you filing for battery? I get that you got battered but how are you filing for battery?…I have no respect for the man.”
