‘The ball’s in Teofimo’s court’: Arum discusses three-fight deal Saudis have offered Lopez

Fighting

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum talks to Fight Hype about where things currently stand with Teofimo Lopez, an offer on the table for a three-fight deal that awaits Lopez’s approval, and his belief that Lopez will be satisfied with what’s on the table despite his criticism of his promotional company. Here’s some of what he had to say.

Arum on the status of Teofimo Lopez’s career

“The Saudis have come to us and they’ve talked about making a three-fight deal with Teofimo which we like very much, and now the ball’s in Teofimo’s court to get his approval. But the Saudis have stepped up to the plate and as far as Top Rank is concerned, we’re please with the offer and the arrangement and now it’s up to Teofimo and I’ll be back in Vegas on Saturday and I’ll be contacting Teofimo and his people and we’ll see where it goes from there.”

On Teofimo having new management

“Everyday it changes.”

On the ongoing dispute Teofimo has with Top Rank

“We’ve had a good relationship with Teofimo, but there comes a time where they’re looking to fly a little bit on their own, and that’s not unusual, that happens. But I think Teofimo will like the package that the Saudis have presented and we’ll go forward with him on that basis.”

On Keyshawn Davis being lined up to face Denys Berinchyk

“That’s not a walk in the park, that’s a very tough fight for Keyshawn. But Keyshawn is extraordinarily talented and we think that he’ll be able to win the title, but it’s not a walk in the park, it’s a very, very difficult fight.”
