Amanda Serrano lost another controversial decision to Katie Taylor tonight, with much of the discussion from the bout stemming from Taylor leading with her head — or just headbutting, to put it very simply — and a bad cut that opened on Serrano as a result.
How bad was the cut?
It was this bad. This is the cut cleaned up, post-fight:
Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KO) lost on scores of 95-94 from all three judges. Taylor (24-1, 6 KO) retained her undisputed super lightweight championship, and offered the possibility of a third fight between the two, and next time doing Serrano’s preferred 12, three-minute rounds instead of women’s boxing’s standard 10, two-minute rounds for championship fights.
Whether Serrano and her team will really want to fight Taylor a third time remains to be seen, but the money will be bigger for that than for anything else Amanda can do, too, so only time will tell.
