Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum, who co-promotes WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, says a potential fight with Anthony Joshua would be a major event in the future.
Joshua is hoping to make a statement in his next fight, after suffering back to back decision losses to IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
The next fight for Joshua is being targeted for the month of March.
Fury returned to the ring earlier this month and battered Derek Chisora for a stoppage win in their trilogy fight.
The British star is now being lined up to fight Usyk in a high-stakes undisputed fight – with the winner becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis accomplished the feat in 1999.
Fury vs. Usyk is targeted to take place in the early months of 2023, likely in the Middle East.
There were talks for Fury and Joshua to collide earlier this month, and Fury was under the impression that a deal had been reached, but then Joshua and his handlers went in another direction. Fury continued forward with a planned return and subbed in Chisora, who coincidentally is guided by Joshua’s management company.
“Tyson was teed off because he offered Joshua the fight for the end of this year, the one that Chisora took and Joshua agreed and then pulled out,” Arum told Sky Sports.
“So Tyson is really [annoyed] at Joshua and says he won’t fight him. But let’s see. Joshua and Fury down the road could be a massive fight in the UK. We’ll have to see.
“But one fight at a time. Right now the only heavyweight championship fight that I’m looking at is Tyson and Oleksandr Usyk.”
