Berinchyk vs Davis in the works for Feb. 14 at Hulu Theater

Fighting

Keyshawn Davis’ first title fight is just about set, as Mike Coppinger reports that he’s “finalizing a deal” to face WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk on February 14th at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater.

Now 25 years old, Davis (12-0, 8 KO) has thus far lived up to the lofty expectations his Tokyo 2020 silver medal run generated. His latest performance proved his most impressive to date, as he absolutely smoked an overweight Gustavo Lemos in two rounds last month.

Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KO) sports a silver medal of his own, earned in 2012 as part of the stacked Ukrainian squad that featured Vasiliy Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk, but didn’t show anywhere near that level of urgency in his rise through the professional ranks. After debuting in 2015, he tread water until last May, when he took an ugly split decision over Emanuel Navarrete.

Still, he’s a genuinely solid fighter and should make for an interesting clash with Davis. We’ll let you know if and when they make this official.
