Save for the fact that half of the co-main event had yet to arrive, the weigh-ins for tomorrow’s Riyadh Season super-card went off without a hitch. All fighters present made weight without issue, though Joseph Parker did turn in a surprising number.
Parker, who was originally slated to challenge Daniel Dubois for the IBF title before a last-minute illness on “Dynamite’s” part led Martin Bakole to tag in, hit the scales at a career-high 267 pounds. This is nearly 20 pounds heavier than when he got off the canvas to beat Zhilei Zhang last March and beats his previous career-high, 255.25 against Joe Joyce, by more than 10.
This would have given him a noteworthy size advantage against Dubois, who’s never weighed in above 250, but could come back to bite him against the gigantic Bakole. It will be interesting to see whether he can still weaponize that, especially considering the suspect state of Bakole’s cardio.
