Boots vs Stanionis unification “nearly finalized” for Apr. 12

IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis may finally get the unification he’s long craved, as Keith Idec reports that he’s “nearly finalized” a deal to meet WBA titlist Eimantas Stanionis on April 12th in Atlantic City.

Mike Coppinger first brought word of these developments late last week. Per Idec, we can expect an official announcement this coming Friday.

Unable to secure a clash with his fellow champions, Ennis’ (33-0, 29 KO) 2024 campaign saw him run over David Avanesyan before taking a hard-fought decision over Karen Chukhadzhian in their November rematch. News soon emerged of a tantalizing bout with Vergil Ortiz Jr at 154, but Ennis elected to stay at welterweight, leaving Ortiz to prepare for Israil Madrimov next month instead.

Stanionis (15-0, 9 KO) has fought just once in nearly three years, a comfortable decision over fellow Olympian Gabriel Maestre that followed a long, fruitless quest to fight the aforementioned Ortiz. Still, there’s a strong argument to be made that he’s the best at 147 behind Ennis and has the aggressive style to produce a banger. Really hoping this one gets over the line.
