DAZN, 3:00 am ET, Jai Opetaia vs David Nyika. Fun in prime time for Australia, breakfast entertainment for our European friends, and an overnight fireworks show for the Americans, as Opetaia and Nyika fight for Opetaia’s IBF cruiserweight title. Opetaia broke through in a big way with a Fight of the Year level battle against Mairis Briedis back in July of 2022 that left Opetaia with his jaw cracked on both sides and dangling loose, but a world title belt around his waist. Opetaia was originally set to face IBF mandatory Huseyin Cinkara here, but Cinkara broke his ankle, allowing David Nyika to step up to the opportunity in just his 11th pro fight. Two notable heavyweights in action on the undercard, with Justus Huni in the chief support, and Olympian and super-prospect Teremoana Junior deeper on the running order. Bad Left Hook will have live updates.
Saturday, Jan. 11
Peacock, 2:00 pm ET, Callum Simpson vs Steed Woodall. For Simpson’s British and Commonwealth super middleweight titles. Caroline Dubois defends the WBC lightweight title in the chief support. Boxxer says this is airing on Peacock in the US, but the broadcast start time is just my best guess… I can tell you when SuperMotocross racing in Anaheim starts on Peacock that day, and I can direct you to the replay of Spokane hosting Tampa Bay in USL soccer action last month. But, there’s absolutely nothing currently listed on Peacock about anything boxing, past or future. UK viewers can watch it on Sky Sports, where the TV show starts at 7 pm local time. And I know that because Sky actually tells people when they’re airing boxing, like a real broadcaster that actually wants people to watch it on their platform! If you’re an American, just hope for the best, and maybe watch a 2023 frisbee dog competition if Peacock never gets around to listing the show.
