Fighting

Wednesday, Sep. 11

DAZN, 4:00 pm ET, Canelo vs Berlanga main event press conference. Canelo and Eddie B make one last effort to talk out their disagreement before settling it with fists. Sometimes, random other people show up and try to hijack Canelo press conferences to get some publicity, so that might be fun. And, remember that time Caleb Plant got the sunglasses stiff-armed right off his face? Wild, right?

Thursday, Sep. 12

DAZN, 2:00 pm ET, Canelo vs Berlanga undercard press conference. Erislandy Lara! Danny Garcia! Caleb Plant! Trevor McCumby, potentially in full Dr. Disrespect cosplay gear! Stephen Fulton! Rolly Romero! Roiman Villa! AND MICROPHONES!

DAZN, 8:00 pm ET, Ardreal Holmes vs Hugo Noriega. A Salita/Big Time Boxing show out of “Michagan,” as DAZN’s capsule identifies it. CountryBox: Where Music Meets Boxing veteran Da’Velle Smith is on the undercard!

Friday, Sep. 13

DAZN, 4:00 pm ET, Canelo vs Berlanga weigh-in. We know what all these guys are supposed to weigh… But, what will they actually weigh? Find out, live!

TrillerTV+, 7:30 pm ET, Alessi Promotions. “A Night of Professional Boxing” is the promo slogan, and it comes to you from the Downtown Hilton in Tampa, Florida. Main event is 53 year old Chevelle Hallback against BKFC veteran Melanie Shah, who makes her pro boxing debut at the age of 42.

DAZN, 8:00 pm ET, Rocky Hernandez vs Thomas Mattice. A Matchroom show out of Hermasillo, Mexico. Hernandez gave us a great show last October against O’Shaquie Foster, and Mattice is 7-1 since his narrow 2020 loss to Isaac Cruz.

Saturday, Sep. 14

DAZN, 3:30 am ET, David Nyika vs Tommy Karpency. Joe Parker co-promotes this show out of New Zealand. The main event is for Nyika’s IBF’s “Inter-Continental” cruiserweight belt… But, New Zealand isn’t really part of a continent! Oceania is a region, sure, but I fear the geographic identity of this belt may be absolute nonsense. Hemi Ahio looks to avenge his only career loss against Faiga Opelu on the undercard.

DAZN, 1:00 pm ET, Dream Boxing. Etinosa Oliha vs Alexander Pavlov is your main event. Oliha is #8 in the middleweight rankings for the WBC and IBF, so he’s as close to relevant as anyone else in the current middleweight landscape.

DAZN, 3:00 pm ET, MF x DAZN 18. Elle Brooke vs Jenny Savage is the headline fight. The gimmick this time is a same-night tournament. The semifinals are early in the show, and the winners meet each other in the chief support for the final.

YouTube, 6:00 pm ET, Canelo vs Berlanga prelims. Stephen Fulton, fighting for the first time since his loss to Naoya Inoue last summer, fights Carlos Castro. Also, Roiman Villa vs Richardo Salas and Jonathan Lopez vs Richard Medina.

PPV, 8:00 pm ET, Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga. Canelo brings three super middleweight belts, Berlanga brings the (theoretically) promotionally useful Puerto Rico rivalry. $89.99 American to watch on DAZN, $89.95 on Amazon Prime for the frugal among us. Three fights on the main undercard: Erislandy Lara vs Danny Garcia for Lara’s WBA middleweight belt, Caleb Plant vs Trevor McCumby for an interim WBA belt, and Rolando “Rolly” Romero vs Manuel Jaimes. BLH will have live updates.
