Emiliano Vargas was in no mood to hear the judges’ scorecards for a second straight fight.
The second-generation boxer was emphatic in producing an early night as he stopped Iowa’s Edgar Uvalle in the second round. Vargas was warned for a low blow but got away with another which was followed by a combination upstairs to put Uvalle down for the full ten count. The official time was 1:21 of round two in the ESPN+ aired junior lightweight bout Saturday evening from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Vargas went the full four-round distance for the first time in his young career in his previous outing. The 18-year-old fighting son of former two-time junior middleweight champion Fernando Vargas won every round versus Fernando Duque but was more intent on delivering “a one-sided ass whipping” on Saturday.
It was mission accomplished, as Vargas threw left hooks with knockout intentions from the opening bell. Uvalle (2-4-2, 2KOs), fighting outside of Iowa for the first time, was repeatedly rocked but showed plenty of heart and an occasional response.
Vargas, a native of Oxnard, California who now lives and trains in Las Vegas, was warned early in round two for a low blow. Referee Gary Ritter missed a second one, as he was on the wrong side of Vargas’ left hook downstairs. Uvalle failed to defend himself at all times, which left him open for a combination upstairs to send him to the canvas where he was counted out.
The win advanced Vargas’ record to 4-0 (3KOs). The knockout was his deepest as a pro; he ended his pro debut in just 129 seconds and took out Julio Martinez just 47 seconds into the second round of their November 12 clash.
Headlining the show, Robeisy Ramirez (11-1, 7KOs) and Isaac Dogboe (24-2, 15KOs) meet in a scheduled 12-round vacant WBO featherweight title fight.
