Garcia arrested for felony vandalism

Fighting

Multiple outlets report that Ryan Garcia was arrested yesterday after allegedly causing an estimated $15,000 of damage at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills.

Per TMZ, one of Garcia’s (25-1, 20 KO) family members called police for a welfare check the previous Wednesday. Though no incidents arose and the police left without issue, TMZ alleges that Garcia subsequently “acted out,” prompting the hotel to “cut him off from drinking.”

Alcohol appears to have been involved yesterday as well, with Garcia’s lawyer telling ESPN that “Kingry” “might also be charged with public intoxication.”

The embattled Garcia displayed worryingly erratic behavior in the buildup to his April showdown with Devin Haney, culminating in missing weight by over three pounds. Though Garcia emerged victorious on the strength of three knockdowns, he subsequently tested positive for the banned substance ostarine, a result he claims was due to a tainted supplement.

Both the TMZ article and Garcia’s lawyer also note that Garcia’s mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

By California law, the threshold for felony vandalism is $400. The maximum penalties, which I must stress are very unlikely to be applied here, are up to three years in state prison and/or up to $50,000 in fines.
