Haney calls on Turki Alalshikh to make Catterall fight

DEVIN HANEY has declared some interest in a fight against Jack Catterall.

The former undisputed lightweight champion spent some time on Saturday night commenting on Catterall’s fight against Regis Prograis.

Catterall, just like Haney, beat Prograis recording a points win against the two-time super-lightweight champion. The victory ensures another big fight for Catterall in 2025 with ‘El Gato’ mentioning IBF 140lb champion Liam Paro and WBO belt holder Teofimo Lopez as potential options.

Haney and Prograis shared a heated build-up to their own fight in December 2023 which saw Haney completely dominate ‘Rougarou’ winning 120-107 on all three scorecards.

“I ruined Regis,” Haney wrote on X at the weekend. The 25-year-old added, “And I beat him worse than Catterall… Regis just bitter.”

Catterall also indicated to Haney he’d be willing to fight him drawing this response from the American: “Be careful what you ask for.”

Haney has been out the ring since his blockbuster against Ryan Garcia in April. That night at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn an inspired Garcia beat Haney on points dropping his rival three times. However, the bout was declared a no-contest in June after Garcia tested positive for performance enhancing drugs.

Garcia was also suspended for a year by the New York State Athletic Commission and said Garcia would have to forfeit his $1 million purse he and pay a $10,000 fine.

Haney, who has been designated Champion in Recess by the WBC after losing his super-lightweight title, had taken an extended period to recover from the Garcia fight but will likely return in 2025. And if a fight against Catterall is to happen, Haney says there is somebody who can put a deal together.
