Undefeated welterweight Jorge Maravillo will face Damoni Cato-Cain in an eight-round bout December 13 at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California.
Maravillo, 10-0 (8 KOs), of Salinas, California, will be taking a step up in competition under a new training setup. Having parted ways with Sam Garcia and his late father, Max Garcia, Maravillo is now training in Hollywood, California, with Freddie Roach, according to a social media post from 360 Promotions.
Maravillo, 24, started his career with eight straight knockouts but has gone the distance in his past two outings. Without any apparent promotional backing, Maravillo might be looking to try to change that with his performance in this fight, which on paper is an evenly matched contest.
Cato-Cain, 8-1-1 (7 KOs), of Oakland, California, has made his name sparring with the likes of Terence Crawford and Keyshawn Davis. His manager, Rogelio Delgadillo, claims the 27-year-old Cato-Cain has been avoided throughout his career – but especially in 2024.
A year ago in November, Cato-Cain rebounded from a tough stretch, knocking out Juan Meza Moreno after ending 2022 with a draw against Rashid Stevens (despite scoring two knockdowns) and following it with a unanimous decision loss to Eric Tudor. Trained by Arvin Jugarap of the Kennel Boxing Gym, Cato-Cain is aiming to reestablish momentum.
The bout will be part of an undercard streamed on UFC Fight Pass, headlined by middleweights Sadriddin Akhmedov and Raphael Igbokwe in a 10-round clash.
