Julio Cesar Martinez was meant to make his debut with Premier Boxing Champions on Saturday, but will not be fighting Angelino Cordova as scheduled.
Martinez encountered visa issues trying to enter the United States, and the bout will be rescheduled “next year,” or at least that’s the plan.
This news will come as surprise to very few who have paid attention to Martinez over the last few years. With him, if it’s not one thing, it’s another, between injury, weight issues, now visa issues, and sometimes just bad luck that goes his way or an opponent’s.
Martinez (20-2, 15 KO) holds the WBC flyweight title.
Saturday’s final Showtime boxing bill will now be a tripleheader instead of a four-fight affair. The main event between David Morrell Jr and Sena Agbeko is still on, as is the rematch between Chris Colbert and Jose Valenzuela, as well as the rematch between Robert Guerrero and Andre Berto. Nothing from the prelims received the “bump to main card” treatment here.
