Promoter Alexander Krassyuk is bewildered by Turki Alalshikh’s recent claims that British fighters are the best in the world ahead of the unified heavyweight championship bout between Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) and Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24KOs) next month.
The influential Alalshikh made the comments during a press conference last week in Morecambe. Fury spoke to the media ahead of the undisputed heavyweight affair with Usyk in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on May 18.
Alalshihk did not attend the event but phoned in and praised Fury and expressed his opinions of UK fighters.
Krassyuk, who has promoted unified champion Usyk throughout the Ukrainian’s professional career, expressed concerns about possible favoritism towards the WBC world heavyweight champion Fury following Alalshikh’s comments.
“His Excellency mentioned that British fighters were the best in the world, but he omitted the fact that the future undisputed heavyweight champion had a Ukrainian passport,” Krassyuk told WBN.
“Mr Alalshikh is a great, honorable man and a big fan of boxing. It is his right to choose his favorite in the biggest fight of the century. We respect him a lot and trust that this boxing match will be contested at the highest level of integrity and sportsmanship. However, we have taken care of the selection of the officials. Those selections will be made on mutual approval,” insisted Krassuyk.
