Lamont Roach Jnr pledges to ‘kick some ass’ against Gervonta Davis

Boxing Scene

As they took in the final stop of their two-city press tour, Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Lamont Roach Jnr stared one another down ahead of their March 1 clash at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Roach, the reigning WBA junior lightweight titleholder, from Baltimore, is one of the biggest names in the sport, and the fighters have known each other for years. Following Tuesday’s press conference in New York, they were in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

Roach – moving up in weight to challenge Davis – thanked his team, father, coaches and those in camp with him, – and also Robert Diaz and Garry Jonas: “Come March 1, we’re ready to kick some ass,” said Roach.

Davis, who had to stop himself from thanking Showtime and instead thanked broadcasters Amazon Prime, also saluted those who were part of the team and paid tribute to Roach as “a great fighter.”

“We’re in D.C., right? That’s cool,” said Davis.

“D.C. versus Baltimore come March 1, it’s always been a rivalry. Not with me, but it’s always been a rivalry between D.C. and Baltimore. With me, I feel like D.C. is always home. I had to get through D.C. to get to the regionals or the nationals, so I had to beat these guys. So they just became my homeboys and shit like that, so we all family now. But come March 1, it’s definitely going to be a good show.”
