Plant vs McCumby pushed off Aug. 17 date following injury

The August 17 fight between Caleb Plant and Trevor McCumby has officially been postponed as ESPN reports that McCumby has sustained a cut over his right eye. This fight, which was due to be PBC’s first card on Prime Video that wouldn’t be a PPV, is expected to be rescheduled for a later date with the entire card being pushed back along with it.

Plant, 32, made his last appearance in the ring in March 2023 where he would lose a clear unanimous decision to David Benavidez, marking his second loss in his last three fights. This fight was set up to get him back in the win column, but it won’t happen as originally planned.

Meanwhile little-known McCumby last fought at the top of this year when he outpointed Christopher Pearson in a ten round decision.

Fan sentiment for this fight wasn’t all that favorable since Plant’s announcement of it on social media, so it’s unlikely there will be a lot of disappointment in this latest news of its postponement. That said, this prolonged period of inactivity for Plant probably isn’t ideal.
