With David Benavidez primed for this Saturday’s light heavyweight fight against David Morrell, he talks to the boxing media about how he’s hitting hit prime and why he expects that to show come fight night. Benavidez says he’ll be looking to punish Morrell while also putting his professional experience to use.
“I really don’t like anybody who I fight and it just takes a little bit of trash talk to get me set off, but he been talking a lot, he’s been calling me out for two years so it’s basically I’m going to shut this guy up,” Benavidez said.
“I’ve been professional 11 years, I have way more experience. The fight that I did let the emotions get to me was Caleb Plant but you learn from experience and I intend to use my experience to the best of my advantage.
“What I take from (the Plant fight) is that I don’t have to just look for one punch. That’s basically what I take from that fight. This fight, we’re going to do different stuff, we’re going to be throwing combinations off the bat and as soon as I let my combinations go you see the best David Benavidez.
“I’m not looking for one shot, I’m going to punish this dude, and I’m going to punish him at every angle — body shots, head shots, uppercuts, whatever it is I’m going to punish him.
“This fight I’m mentally, emotionally, physically, I’m at the best stage of my life and I’ve been working extremely hard and I know I get better and better by every fight and now this fight is no different. I know exactly what I could do, I know how to work the rounds and I know how to work a championship fight and that’s what I’m going to do this Saturday.”
