CLAIMS via Andy Ruiz Jnr’s social media that he is fighting Tyson Fury on July 22nd at Wembley Stadium have been denied by Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren.
Warren told Boxing News that this information was not true after Ruiz reshared a post on his Instagram story which read: “Tyson Fury vs Andy Ruiz is official! July 22nd.” The 33-year-old then added a United Kingdom emoji to add fuel to the speculation.
Ruiz is in the mix to fight Fury, who is expected to return this summer, but Warren told BN there is no update to report regarding Fury’s next fight.
Fury did recently tease a “monster fight” with a social media post which led to many guesses, but it appears fans will have to wait a bit longer to find out when the giant heavyweight will return.
Last December the 34-year-old dominated Dereck Chisora in their trilogy bout at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Fury and his team then entered negotiations to face TBRB champion Oleksandr Usyk, but the deal fell apart with accusations fired back and forth from both sides.
Ruiz, who shocked the boxing world in 2019 with his seventh-round stoppage of Anthony Joshua in New York, has been inactive since the biggest win of his career. The Mexican-American heavyweight lost the rematch in Diryah that same year and did not make his competitive return until defeating veteran Chris Arreola in May 2021. His next fight came 16 months later when he defeated Luis Ortiz on points.
