Robeisy Ramirez: When I Saw My Opening, I Finished the Fight!

Boxing Scene

Hulu Theater, Madison Square Garden – Featherweight contender Robeisy Ramirez (10-1, 6 KOs) is still on the fast-track after securing his most impressive win to date with a one-punch knockout of previously unbeaten Abraham Nova (21-1, 15 KOs) in the fifth round.

In the first round, Ramirez came out pressing forward and forcing Nova to fight off the back-foot with constant jabs. The action was close with Ramirez being more accurate.

Nova did well with his workrate in the second, before Ramirez picked up the pace. They started off the third by exchanging big punches. They continued to trade hard punches as the round played out – with Ramirez rocking Nova at the end of the round.

Ramirez had the advantage in landed punches during the course of the fourth. As the action heated up in the fifth, Ramirez landed a tremendous left hand that put Nova down and out on his back. The fight was quickly waved off.

After the fight, the two-time Olympic gold medal winner explained that he followed a game plan that helped him land the right punches while avoiding Nova’s power.

“It was all about the strategy. I’m blessed to work with Ismael Salas, who is a genius in my corner. It really was about setting up that shot. If you watch the fight, it was about working, tapping the body until that opening was created. I knew he was dangerous, so I had to be careful, but when I saw my opening, I took it and I finished the fight,” Ramirez said.
