Serrano vs Meinke set for March 2, Jake Paul on undercard

Amanda Serrano will defend her featherweight titles against Nina Meinke on March 2 in Puerto Rico, with Jake Paul returning in an undercard spot on the show, as well.

The fight will take place at El Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, which is Puerto Rico’s largest indoor entertainment arena, with a capacity of about 18,500.

Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KO) will defend her WBA, IBF, and WBO featherweight titles against Germany’s Meinke (18-3, 4 KO), with the distance set for 12, three-minute rounds, the same as Serrano’s win over Danila Ramos on Oct. 27 in Florida.

Serrano, 35, insisting on the same championship distance and round times as men’s boxing recently saw her vacate the WBC title, because that organization won’t sanction women’s fights with those rules.

“I’ve been blessed to accomplish most of my dreams in boxing, but my biggest dream has always been to fight on my island, in front of my people, in the Coliseo,” Serrano said on social media. “Finally, I get to live that dream, and I am proud to say that MVP and I have put together a massive event for the world to watch.”

Along with the main event, obviously Jake Paul taking an undercard slot for a Serrano main event is really notable for the card’s marketing, and whatever else you think of Paul, he has genuinely been an above-and-beyond promoter for Serrano during their time working together.

Paul (8-0, 5 KO), of course, just fought on Dec. 15.

The card will feature the boxing debut of 17-year-old Javon “Wanna” Walton, an actor who does have a legitimate boxing upbringing and background and could be a real prospect, as well as WBO junior flyweight titleholder Jonathan Gonzalez in action and a return for Krystal Rosado.
