Tank Davis: Guys Get Few Wins, Think Highly Of Themselves – Come See Me For Real Fight, Real Check

Boxing Scene

The events involving Gervonta Davis usually equate to big business and box office success.

For the Jan. 7 show featuring Davis and Hector Luis Garcia, Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions leveraged the Baltimore native’s fan base in the area to generate over $5 million in ticket revenue at the CapitalOne Arena in Washington, DC – a new all-time gate record, breaking a previous mark set during a Rolling Stones concert. The sellout event – a ninth-round stoppage win for Davis – featured 19,731 fans.

The Showtime-produced card is expected to generate between 200,000 and 225,000 pay-per-view buys.

For the fight before that in May against Rolando Romero at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Davis generated a gate of nearly $4.5 million, a sellout crowd of 18,970, and just under 250,000 PPV buys.

Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) has starred in five-consecutive PPVs for Showtime dating back to 2020 against the likes of Garcia, Romero, Isaac Cruz, Mario Barrios, and Leo Santa Cruz.

He’s proven to be a bonafide ticket seller no matter the market, headlining cards in soldout arenas across Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Atlanta, and San Antonio.

The 28-year-old southpaw slugger’s next desired market to test appears to be Las Vegas for his yet-to-be-announced bout against Ryan Garcia, which is penciled in for April 15.

A rematch clause appears to be one of the last remaining negotiating line items to settle the monthslong negotiating stalemate.

With Davis now finding himself on the shortlist as one of the sport’s top attractions, a viable group of opponents like Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney, and others increasingly lob challenges at him.

“These guys get a few wins and they get a little above themselves,” Davis recently told Brian Custer on “The Last Stand.”

“Come see me. They’ll get a real check and real opponent – the champ.”
