Promotional “B-side” Terence Crawford is not concerned about the four other key figures who will be involved in his fight against Errol Spence Jr. on Saturday night.
On Tuesday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission unanimously approved judges David Sutherland, Tim Cheatham, and Steve Weisfeld as well as referee Harvey Dock to work the undisputed welterweight championship fight from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Crawford insisted he won’t be gunning for a knockout to eliminate any potential of whacky scorecards.
“I never worry about that. That’s out of my hands, and that’s out of my control,” Crawford told BoxingScene.com in an interview.
“The only thing I can do is control me and control what I’m capable of doing and what I do inside the ring. Other than that, I can’t control how they ref the fight. I can’t control how the judges score a fight. That’s not something that I ever had any control over. So why think about it and worry too much now?
“I just go in there and do what I’m supposed to do, and everything else should be fine.”
When Spence was asked by BoxingScene.com about the judges who were selected to work the fight, he assured as well that judging was not a concern at all.
“But as long as, you know, the fans and everybody else see it and know who rightfully won, I feel like that’s what matters,” said Spence.
Both Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) and Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) have been promising an all-action, toe-to-toe war throughout the promotion.
The previous history of their fighting styles indicates the mega matchup could be an all-time classic.
“You got the two best fighters fighting each other, and it’s going to be fireworks,” said Crawford. “He’s always in exciting fights. I’m always in the exciting fights, and what better to have two undefeated prime fighters fighting each other for supremacy for all the belts? So there’s going to be an action-pack fight, and it’s going to be great.”
