Tszyu planning Apr. 6 comeback against Spencer

Fox Sports AU reports that former WBO super welterweight champion Tim Tszyu is looking to kick off his 2025 campaign in an April 6th pay-per-view main event opposite Joey Spencer.

A press conference is reportedly planned for around 90 minutes from time of posting.

Tszyu’s (24-2, 17 KO) March 2024 defeat to Sebastian Fundora was about as understandable as it gets; not only did Tszyu switch opponents from an aging Keith Thurman to one of the sport’s most unique fighters on short notice, he suffered a gnarly cut in the opening rounds that could have very easily forced a no-contest.

The same can’t be said for his disastrous clash with Bakhram Murtazaliev seven months later, which saw Tszyu get floored in the second round and never truly recover en route to a TKO stoppage.

The good news is that he’s still got time to rebuild at 30 years old, and Spencer (19-1, 11 KO) looks to be a solid barometer. The 24-year-old has spent the last couple years rebuilding after a loss to Jesus Ramos, picking up a trio of wins over low- to mid-level opponents above the super welterweight limit.

He’s someone Tszyu should beat, but he’s also decent enough to be a headache if Tszyu hasn’t gotten his mojo back.

“Coming off (two) losses, they wanted me to come back with an easier opponent and, of course, domestic names were mentioned. But for me, I’ve always aimed for the stars And OK, no, sometimes things don’t always go to plan.

“But nothing changes. That’s just who I am. I want to fight the toughest guys, the baddest guys out there and show them who the real bad man is. It’s that simple.”
