Yves Ulysse (Elbow) Forced To Withdraw From January 22 Show In Montreal

An untimely injury has forced Yves Ulysse Jr. to delay his 2022 ring campaign.

The Montreal-bred junior welterweight suffered an elbow injury during training camp and has been pulled from a planned clash with veteran Antonio Moran, Eye of The Tiger Management representatives announced Wednesday. The fight was due to take place January 22 at Cabaret du Casino de Montréal, though it was deemed a risk for Ulysse to push through the rest of training camp with the injury.

“Following the recommendations of his medical team, we made the decision to cancel Ulysse’s fight by precautionary measure. He will also undergo surgery,” Marc Ramsay, Ulysse’s trainer and Director of Development for EOTTM confirmed Wednesday.

The rest of the show will move forward as planned. Headlining the card, rising heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov (13-0, 13KOs) faces Poland’s Mariusz Wach (36-7, 19KOs) in a scheduled 10-round regional title fight.

With the forced withdrawal of Ulysse, heavyweight knockout artist Simon Kean (20-1, 19KOS) has been elevated to the evening’s chief support. An opponent has yet to be named for Quebec’s Kean, who has won five straight—all inside the distance, including a third-round stoppage of Dillon Carman in June 2019 to avenge his lone career defeat suffered eight months prior.

Ulysse (20-2, 11KOs) is expected to fully recover from the injury in the coming weeks, at which point he will resume training. A springtime ring return is expected for the 33-year-old, who has won two straight since a twelve-round points loss to former secondary titlist Ismael Barroso more than two years ago.

The January 22 show is part of a ten-year anniversary celebration for EOTTM, who has scheduled three shows in the first quarter of 2022. The Montreal-based promotional outfit will also stage events on February 19 and March 26, with the details forthcoming.
